Spinel is the gemstone of immortality and beauty. It also helps to rejuvenate the mind & body & spirit, as well as bringing renewal to every area of your life. The red variety helps to strengthen the kundalini energy rising up the spine and connecting the 7 chakras, revitalizing them with energy and power. The red looks just like a garnet, but you can test it by shinning a blue/violet laser beam into the stone, and it should light bright red. Even the blue version lights up red around the edges. If your stone doesn't light up, then it's probably garnet. You can tell the difference between garnet and glass by looking through the stone. It should appear brown or rusty when the light shines through it, but appear red when seen from the top as light reflects off the surface. Glass on the other hand will just be the same color when you look through it.
I've been sold many stones from eBay that turned out to be garnet, but usually the price I paid was so low that it was a good price for garnet as well, so I didn't complain. Spinel is also not made in standard sizes for cut stones, so it's hard to find one that will fit a ring setting perfectly. The sterling silver ring above originally had a fake garnet stone in it, and I have plenty of real garnet stones I could have replaced it with, but I also found a little red spinel stone I had that fit perfectly, so I used that. As you can see in the first photo, the stone does indeed light up beautiful bright red when illuminated by the blue laser beam.
Blue spinel is good for meditation and psychic intuition. It also helps with balancing the emotions and calming the mind. I have rough versions of both red & blue that include in orders whenever a customer requests it because you can make a simple water gemstone elixir from those tiny stones.
